General Overview

This live webinar teaches the Theory of Structural Dissociation and Ego States therapy to prepare clients with C-PTSD and dissociative disorders for EMDR reprocessing. Participants will learn to assess dissociative symptoms, use the Dissociative Table Technique to identify parts of self, and integrate ego states into the eight phases of EMDR.

Course Summary

This course provides an in-depth exploration of ego states therapy within the EMDRmodel as applied to clients with complex PTSD and dissociative symptoms. The course introduces the concept of Structural Dissociation, explaining how prolonged trauma leads to the division of the self into distinct ego states, including Apparently Normal Parts (ANPs) and Emotional Parts (EPs), as adaptive responses to traumatic experiences. The course also covers the screening process for dissociation, offering methods to identify and assess dissociative symptoms over multiple sessions. Ego states therapy is presented as a systematic approach for managing parts of self present with C-PTSD and dissociative disorders. The training presents the Dissociative Table Technique as a primary means of facilitating stabilization of ego states in order to use EMDR reprocessing phases for clients with complex trauma. Emphasis is placed on the therapeutic use of compassion and curiosity in working with parts, underscoring the importance of viewing dissociation as an adaptive coping mechanism rather than a pathology. Participants will learn how to use the dissociative table technique, as well as how to maneuver with ego states within that framework to foster insight, stability, and integration in order to engage in EMDR reprocessing phases. Integration of information gleaned from ego states will be used in EMDR Phase 1: history taking and treatment planning and integrated as interweaves in EMDR reprocessing phases.
